Bluestone Closing Nicheclips Store!

That's right. I've already taken down all except one of my videos from NC.
That one will be removed too before the end of the month. There are many reasons, but they include:

1. The 40% commission makes it much less profitable for me to sell there;
2. Genre Videos is the video mall of the future, so I'm supporting it wholeheartedly;
3. I've determined that piracy by NC customers is much, much higher than from my other stores; and,
4. It's just too much trouble to upload clips to too many sites.

So, if you want any Bluestone and/or UKSG clips, here are the only two locations where they are available:

I'm surprised more people weren't already aware of that. 40% has been their take since they launched in 2001.

Personally I prefer to purchase your videos from the Silk 'N Blood store. I can't even remember the last time I bought anything from NC. I haven't checked out Genre yet but I will take a gander sometime.

I hate to be contrarian after my extended absence from posting, but I am very sorry to hear this. I have been happy with NicheClips for years because NC allowed me to mail in checks to fund an account (in which I still have money), allows me to quickly navigate the latest products available on a weekly basis when I don't have time to explore multiple sites and boards (which has been most of the time for the past 3 years), and like it because I never have to use a credit card with the account. I was fed up with too often finding unauthorized charges on credit cards or on family's phone bill after making purchases of this type of material with credit card, and was satisfied to pay the little bit extra to avoid that problem. So I'm very sorry to see Bluestone withdrawing from NicheClips. I was eagerly anticipating some recent releases being posted there now that I finally have a little more time to enjoy this material. I will miss the Bluestone vids so much that tears are forming as I type this.

Genre Videos is set up perfectly for people such as yourself. Because you are a well-known member of the community, instead of sending in money orders, we will accept your personal checks and credit your GV account, so that you'll never have to pay by credit card. Plus, we have most of the top producers at GV. It's a one stop shop just like NC, but your purchases there will leave more money in producers' pockets. So, they will be pleased to upload any video there that you wish to purchase. I, for one, have my entire video collection up at NC, including ones that are not even available at my Silk 'N Blood store. So, no need to miss any Bluestone videos, or those of the other fine producers at GV.

Blue, I totally understand and support your decision on this. Actually, the 40% that NicheClips takes was the reason I dropped out of the film-making effort. The sales volume on films isn't what it was ten years ago, both because of the pirating, which is shameless, and because there are so many more producers. When you realize that it takes at least $500 worth of model time for two girls and a shooter, plus travel expense, lodging, meals, cameras, set costs, wardrobe, software, computers and 8 to forty hours of time to produce a 20-minute movie, then if you sell it for $20, you only get $12 of the money the customer shelled out, it just doesn't make sense.

Needless to say, I really appreciate and applaud your leadership in providing a distribution service that makes it possible for producers to stay in business.

The tears are gone, thank you Blue. I finally braved the intimidating sign-up for Genre Videos by providing spurious answers...and was pleasantly surprised at the site. It's not as quick and easy to navigate as NicheClips masterly design, but I can now see the benefits for both customers and producers (thanks for your comments, Tommygun). It appears my main problem is being old and too "set in my ways" to promptly adapt to innovations, lol. Pre-funding will be promptly mailed. Thanks again.

Well, very quickly. NC charges 40%because they have to cover adult account rates which have a higher latitude for chargebacks. In addition they have several employees to manage the volume of support and do hard fraud screening.

Every other clips site including C4S which hosts 10's of 1000's of stores had been doing this for years. It is a fair rate for the amount of costs that go into this.

I realize the average person has no concept of discount rates. But certain accounts are 14-18%. And certain accounts are 1.5-3%. One is NOT like the other. And one poses more risk then the other. And, obviously, one costs much, much, much more to use then the other. Hence the reason that different producer discount rates and charges. I don't know what type of account Blue has. But if he has the one for adult account, then at 20% he is making a slim profit. But, with no employees, it is workable.

But aside from that, there is still the who matter of infrastructure and fraud screening. It is VERY important in this community to maintain good fraud screening along with the proper type of merchant accounts to keep everything stable.

So, don't bash want you know nothing about. Just because one place charges less, does not mean a thing without knowing certain details about operations. 40% is not gouging. And if it were so easy to maintaing billing and a merchant account solution, there would be 40 other producers in the community using there own solutions and only paying the 1.5-18% not 20-40%. But there isn't---and I am sure many know exactly why.

NC is a great, stable solution. GV has a nice deal going and seems very stable. How GV pans out over time remains to be seen. 9 years of stability with NC is a good thing. I can only hope for the same on GV and I am willing to try them out. And, it would advise producers that are dependent on the income for there livelihood and expansion to use both.

So, don't be all bashing the, I guess now---the competition, because if this competition never was, instead of paying 40% for stability, would be loosing 10's of 1000's in held funds and fines and probably many, out of business. And so many did.

Well said, JohnM, and I agree with your comments about NC. It has been a stable choice for producers for years and 40% is not gouging. My decision is a personal decision, and it is not for everyone. I don't need NC, and so I chose not to continue there for my own reasons which are listed at the top of this thread. As for other producers, they have to decide what's best for them. I agree that most should simply use both services. Some will have no choice, because GV only accepts the top, best quality producers. Those many new or untried producers who have approached me about opening a GV store have been referred by me to NC. GV and NC are not in head-to-head competition. We run our video malls differently and have different philosophies. I want GV customers to be assured that they are buying from the best producers in the community who stand behind their work, not from hundreds of stores that offer who-knows-what in the way of content. GV customers can also post reviews of GV material, communicate directly with GV producers in order to request material, and contact me directly with any required troubleshooting. Producers get more than the 20% break in commissions, because the GV system has been built from inception as a safe and viable environment for them to market their wares. Like I said... different philosophies... apples and oranges.

I removed all of my videos from NC, and although I never asked them to close my store, they have done so. Obviously, even they read FF. So, there's no going back, my friends. If you want my videos, they are at Genre Videos and my Silk 'N Blood store only. If pirates want them, they will be out of luck, which makes me exceedingly happy!

When I emailed you last week asking about setting that up, you said only a money order would work. Is credit card funding not going to happen for GV? I haven't seen it mentioned recently.

I've bought videos on silknblood before with credit card, but the better values are on GV.
