High and Low Tech Effects

Post by G-Man »

Of the many improvements I have noticed over the past 20 years or so regarding our fetish...
in the area of video effects (FX) and CGI many of the productions have reached the same level of
quality as anything coming out of Hollywood.
Most of the higher tech effects are mostly involved in making types of shooting scenes (guns, arrows, spears... exc) .
Over the past few years some of the producers kept improving on their art to give us some really awesome scenes!
Leading the pack is John M from PKF with his own brand of visual magic. (check out “Hooker Shootout”)
But, I feel like any good tool... it is only good if used well.
Which brings me to the discussion... High Tech vs. Low Tech effects.
Over the decades of film and video, I have seen many very effective death scenes done by directors only using clever
use of low tech effects and film/video editing . (I.E. We see person shooting arrow or gun then cut to victim with arrow or bullet hole already in her or... a victim has her back to us in foreground and we see killer shooting a gun at her in
background so bullet squibs don’t need to be used/shown.)
An example of a great low tech scene...
Angelique Pettyjohn scene from “The G.I. Executioner”
or
High Tech... Shannon Tweed in “Possessed by the Night”.
What I am trying to say here is... I welcome high or low tech effects... I am also saying to some of the producers out there
please do not think you have to spend a lot on FX to still get what ever effect you want to get across to us viewers.
Of course one other major ingredient is needed to make the scene effective... “good acting”.
I do not care if one uses the best CGI effects or most clever low tech editing... without good acting the scene will never
become a “Keeper”.
Obviously... over all, I feel the purpose of any good death fetish video is to “EFFECTIVELY” stimulate us the viewer.
Most of the producers have done well in both areas (high or low tech effects) with good acting.
Again, I feel the key to low or high tech death scene is always will come down to a fine performance.

I agree that it comes down to good acting. Even if the best effects are used, if the acting sucks then at the end it is going to be a letdown. I'd rather see lower tech special effects with a hot woman that acts decently than expensive high tech effects followed by a head shaking disappointment.

The best is when there is a mixture of the two. Quality (not necessarily expensive) effects and good acting.

What is your main fetish?: A few... Shootings, (arrows, bullets, darts, beanbags, lightning bolts, watermelons whatever), stabbing and body play/posing. And more innocently, wetlook or "splosh" as its called elsewhere.
Why do you want to join this forum?: I want to see the content and to keep up with what is produced, what others like and to be in the company of other people who share my fetishes. Growing up I thought I was the only one with these fetishes.

Acting IMO is number one. I've seen some great effects in deaths ruined by crappy acting, I find a great actor/actress can sell the death IMO with minimal or even abysmal effects. But that's my opinion on the matter.

high and low tech effects is debatable to each person of course. too much effects like too much fake blood could ruin a scene. A fake strangle bruise would add to the scene. if a zombie type scene or a creature scene is being filmed and a sexy character is being offed then effects are needed to make it look really good. But ya you can have the right amount of effects added to make a fun and interesting scene but the actress actions could ruin it too. why does kill scenes have to last longer then what a kill scene would last in a mainstream type scene? shoot her with a arrow once or twice and have her die instantly or have die in agony in less time then I have seen. thats where fan edits comes in I guess. but prefer not to touch the clip. so basically good acting and bad effects both scene could ruin a scene. one or the other could ruin a scene. or the smallest effect like her death stare could add or take away. character effect that she brings to the scene. convincing agony to the kill method.

It's good you mention the death stare. If the victim's eyes are open to me that stare makes a big difference. She needs to look like a sexy dead chick, not a fish. It's a virtually free "effect" but can make or break a scene.

very true. Effects in scene can be how the character acts which can be powerful element as a computer made effect or blood effect or strangle bruise. Im one of those people who likes to break down a scene element by element.
