Sub-genre: two stabbings and one shooting
For the most part, the knife piercing flesh sounds like a prop knife close to the microphone. The knife sounds work for me, but those who want the realism of digital effects may be disappointed by the knife sounds. I'm amazed, though, that the periodic digging-around-in-the-flesh sounds could be achieved with a prop knife.
Camera work and pacing vary from mostly outstanding to occasionally mediocre.
Sexy Suzi is outstanding as the Jack-the-Ripper possessed villain. The close-ups of her face as she repeatedly stabs Kerie are incredible. And frightening.
Repeated stabs of Kerie are too high in belly to be erotic or fantasy-fulfilling but the high number of repeated stabs so excellently filmed, paced, and edited is appreciated. This sequence alone is worth the purchase price.
The shooting scene of Suzi was lacking. Suzi took both bullets near the collar bone area; I hate to see this area as a target. Presumably it was done this way to show the bullet holes on flesh since the black dress worn by Suzie wouldn't accommodate the blood. Still, I would have preferred the shooting anywhere but the collar bone or above. It would have been preferable to resort to a bloodless shooting than for this area to be the target.
Death stares by all three gals are superb and wonderfully captured by outstanding aftermath pans and close-ups.
Overall, this is good horror with some genuinely frightening moments. It lacks in the fantasy-fulfillment department for me but does work well in terms of entertainment and art.
I highly recommend "Seance" to stabbing fans but wouldn't necessarily recommend it to shooting fans.
This movie is well worth the price of admission and is a keeper.
