Late Summer Shoot

Hank Samuels and I are working on a three day shoot plan for late this summer. The numbers aren't good, in terms of the cost of talent and everything else, offset by the average number of sales for clips these days. So, we'd be very happy for anyone who'd like to check out a custom or pitch into the kitty to add some cash.

That said, assuming it goes ahead, the plan does raise one set of questions about strangulations... What are your favorite methods and views...? Manual? Garrote-wire, tie, stocking, bra, belt? Hanging by rope?

And do you like it "tough," with good, rough bruising and even some blood? Some peeing...? Or do you prefer them cleaner, with perhaps some purplish bruises, but otherwise, "clean?"

And what about drownings? What are your thoughts on how victims are drowned...? What do you like them to be wearing? Or nothing?

Strangles, I usually prefer a long struggle, bruising on the neck, feet moving, then slowly fading, with tongue sticking out. Using an object like a belt or wire, but manual works as well, a little bit of blood is fine and a bladder release if the person is topless or nude. Drownings, I prefer nude, topless, or wearing a 1 or 2 piece bathing suit. Usually a long struggle and they stay submerged with head underwater afterwards.

Obviously, I'm a fan of asphyxia deaths, mainly lift-up strangles & hangings(especially if the woman is barefoot or her shoes fall off during the kill)! I'm cool with bruising on the neck & bladder releases.

There are a lot of strangulation fans who are also foot fetishers; so I too would suggest that during a strangulation scene, the victim kicks off one of her shoes, then the camera can focus in on her bare foot, her bare sole, and her stretching her leg, foot, and toes as she dies.

Also, during the strangulation scenes, if you are interested in any sort of realism, don't have her talking, crying out, noticeably gasping, breathing heavily, or any indication air is reaching or escaping her lungs. Throat is closed off in a successful strangulation. The actress could close her own throat off and make glottal sounds.

Eyes wide open and staring after she is dead. It takes a good actress to pull off a decent death stare.

Some people like the post-death protruding tongue, as well.

I would have some personal preferences. But since I'm not kicking in, I won't mention them, as they probably wouldn't appeal to your general audience. (I've already spent my custom money for this year.)

Hey, Ric, totally agree with your points. Very helpful director's background, and I tend to not think about the shoe issue properly. And drop me a PM on the "personal preferences." Love to have your perspective on it all...
