Cinemasphyxia.com - January Updates and Other News

Post by Nyghtfall »

With a new year upon is, I thought it would be a good idea to start advertising my site again. Helps drive traffic, ya know? ;)

Last January, I moved to a monthly posting schedule to allow more time for other interests - namely, my dream of becoming a full-time fiction writer, and my 3D art.

My fiction writing has gone nowhere. I have lots of ideas for stories, but lack the discipline to write them down. I've since learned there aren't that many full-time writers in the world anyway, and even successful writers still hold full-time jobs. One even wrote on their blog, "If you are wedded to the peace of mind that comes with earning a steady paycheck, kiss your dream of becoming a full-time writer goodbye". Well, that's me, so I've resigned myself to writing for the sheer pleasure of it, and consider myself extremely fortunate to have a full-time job now. If I happen to do well enough some day to write full time, I'll consider it a bonus.

I once saw a video in which Dean Koontz discussed his first editing experience. His editor told him, "There are two things you need to do, and I'm going to show you how to do them. First I'm going to show you how to cut 1/3 of the manuscript." It was a 940 pages long. "You also need to delete 4 of the 12 main characters." Six weeks later, the editor returned Dean's manuscript with a cover letter that read, "As you will note, I have red-lined everywhere throughout the script, paragraphs or lines that I think could be cut and not effect the quality of the book. These amount to 10 pages. All you have to do is find the other 300."

As far as I'm concerned, if I can't flesh out even the first draft of a short story in less than a year, much less get to a point where an editor can offer advice for improving my work, I'm dead in the water as a fiction writer. Suffice it to say, I'm not interested in that anymore. I'm pursuing blogging now, though not on a professional level just yet. I'll touch on that later.

My 3D art is progressing nicely. I'm learning more every day. I've got two projects waiting for postwork, and a third rendering as I write this.

Unfortunately, my time management skills suck. Coupled with a brief period of indecision about whether to continue posting updates at all (again, thanks to my wife for helping me with that), even the monthly schedule has seen delays. By the end of November, I was very displeased with myself. I enjoy both hobbies, but my clip site is my longest-running favorite of the two, and I was tired of letting my 3D art interfere with it.

I've been a fantasy asphyxia fetishist since my early teens, and that fetish grew from watching movies and TV shows. I created Cinemasphyxia to share that fetish with you, and I want it to be a site you will always look forward to visiting. I don't believe that can happen with a month or more between updates, so I'm giving it top priority and have returned to a weekly posting schedule. To insure I don't stress myself, I'm limiting updates to one new title per week.

With that in mind, I'm very happy to report that all of my high quality 720 x 480 WMVs are back online, and the upgrade to WordPress is finally done!

Next, I’m going to make a concerted effort to upgrade all of my low quality 640 x 480 WMVs as fast as possible while I continue adding new content each week. That’s 256 more clips that will be upgraded over what will hopefully prove a relatively short period of time (several months at least). Afterward, I’ll resume my seemingly never-ending goal of upgrading all of my old MPEGs.

Finally, in other news, relating to my new-found interest in blogging, I'm considering writing fetish video reviews again, and currently working on a new section of the site to post them on. Since the site’s main purpose is to feature content from mainstream sources, and I would rather not feel compelled to re-institute a login process, all of my fetish reviews will be text only, but include links to the producers and web site where I buy all of my videos from. If all goes well, I expect to have my first review posted in a few days.

Suffocation: Buffy the Vampire Slayer S05E21: “Weight of the World” (Member Request)
