Re: Cinemasphyxia.com - Updates, New Look, and a New Section
Decided to go ahead and post the details about this week's update so you don't have to register first to read them. For some reason, the Edit function on this section of Blue's site is disabled after a period of time, so I'm posting this follow-up.
Alright, take a breath, because I've got some important news to share, and this is going to be one long-ass post.
CLIP UPDATES - First and foremost, write-ups for the last two months of updates going back to August 20 are now online.
New this week are cilps for October 7, 14, and 21.

CLIP REQUESTS - Some time ago, I updated the Library indices with a new e-mail address I was going to use for handling clip requests. Apparently, I forgot to set up the address with my hosting service. As a result, any requests were likely returned as undeliverable. My sincerst apologies for the blunder. The address is now officially in place, so if you know of a scene you'd like added to the site, please send your request to cliprequest@cinemasphyxia.com.
MPEG-1 TO WMV CONVERSION - Since switching to WMV in 2008, I've been re-capturing old scenes in an effort to replace all of my MPEG's with new WMV's. I've never set a time table for when most if not all of them would be done, but the process has proven much slower than I anticipated, so I'm going to try and speed it up a bit.
SITE DESIGN - I've made a few changes to the layout. They're outlined below:
- Now that widescreen monitors have completely replaced traditional CRT's, I decided it was high time to bring the site a bit more into the 21st century. To that end, I removed the old grey filmstrip border graphic since it was designed for 1024 x 768 displays, and modified the HTML code to adapt to wider displays. For the first time in 8 years, all of the indices in the Video Library and clip pages are now centered as well (grin). In its place is a new, very subtle, seamless wallpaper designed to add some texture to the background.
- The software I originally used to create the page title graphics is no longer supported. Since I no longer have the assets to edit them if needed anyway, I've replaced them with regular text.
- I reorganized the Site Map to appear more uniform, and removed the Site Help section - the information there was extremely outdated, and I would rather answer any technical questions myself than keep it updated.
- Finally, while cleaning the site up, I found remnants of some old Java script I tried years ago, but had long since done away with, and thought I'd deleted all the code. It's all gone now, so you should not get anymore browser alerts about broken plug-ins on certain pages.
UPGRADES - Windows 8 is now available for purchase. I picked up my copy of the Pro version yesterday evening. My Dazzle Digital Video Recorder is 4 years old now, and not compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows 8, which I'll be installing tomorrow. So, I found a new video recording solution by Pinnacle Systems called the Studio MovieBox. I've tested it with the Windows 8 Consumer Release Preview, and it works flawlessly. I'll be using it mainly to record scenes from VHS tapes and cable TV. For recording from DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming media, I now use a program called FRAPS to insure the highest video quality possible. I've updated the Site Info page accordingly.
I'M ABANDONING 3D ART - When I ventured into the world of 3D in 2006, the idea of bringing my own fantasies to life in a virtual environment felt very appealing to me. Since then, I've learned just how much of a pain in the ass it is to get software and content to behave well enough together to create something I can be reasonably happy with. Even then, whatever I create is missing the one thing I want most: hyper-realism. As a foot fetishist, this is especially important. My single biggest complaint with female figures is that, no matter what character morphs they're using, their feet always look the same.
Of all the asphyx scenes I've seen in mainstream movies and TV shows, the bathroom strangling in the 1981 Brian de Palma film, Blow Out, is one of my favorites. If I had a Top 5 list of favorite stranglings, that scene would be number 2, and I've fantasized about seeing a fetish-oriented remake of it for over 20 years now.
Until recently, I've been content with trying to re-create that scene in 3D using a variety of different figure sets and clothing. While I've half heartedly toyed around with what I can do in Poser, my meager, throw-away renderings have been a far, far cry from the original scene.
I've been in the fantasy death fetish community for 15 years now. Not once have I ever paid to have my own custom video done. I've simply crossed my fingers and hoped for something interesting, or submitted a handful of ideas in the hope that they might be used.
Two weeks ago, with my sincerest thanks to PKF Studios, it finally happened. I chose PKF because I've seen enough of their work, know enough about John's attention to detail and his commitment to his clients, to feel confident knowing he would give me my money's worth.
The video won't be released until after John returns from his trip to Japan on the 23rd, and he has several other customs to edit before mine, but he did send me a few screenshots, and they look absolutely fantastic! Not only do they look better than what I imagined, they are a huge improvement on the original scene in every way, and my heart starts racing every time I look at them.
It's been an fun ride, learning new skills and challenging myself as a burgeoning 3D artist, but this experience with my first ever paid custom video has taught me that 3D is no longer enough to make me happy as a fantasy death fetishist. I need real people in real settings. So, I'm abandoning 3D altogether and am going to re-direct my financial resources to commission more custom videos.
If you're interested, and have a deviantART account, you can view my rather small gallery here. I'll be closing my account at the end of the month. My creative process has always been glacier slow, so I won't miss it.
With that in mind...
SITE EXPANSION - To celebrate my first paid custom, I'm expanding the scope of the site to highlight work I've previously had done by other fetish producers. These videos were done at no cost to me, simply by submitting ideas they liked well enough to shoot, as have others in the community. Content includes preview pics, producer synopsis, and my own comments detailing my thoughts beind having each video made. The new section will not be updated regularly, as it can become prohibitively expensive to pay for custom work. You'll find the new link under the Site Map on my site, labeled Custom Videos.
And that's all for this week. Thank you for your time. Enjoy your stay! :)
