Bluestone reports pirate sites
Bluestone has sent notice regarding pirate sites to producers. My quick review concludes that these are not pirates. The volume of videos indicates outright theft from libraries such as Nicheclips. Plus the site lists pirate source sites.

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
I am reporting pirate sites to Genre Videos producers as an added service to those producers. This is a heads up, so that these producers can take steps to take down these pirated videos, such as the 100 that I had taken down from one site yesterday. Penn is probably right that most of these videos came from Nicheclips, because they do not attempt to control file-sharers like Genre Videos does.
Are members file-sharing the work of our community producers? Well, I hope not, but many may be doing so, thinking "What's the harm"? Well, the harm is HUGE! Community producers need every sale in order to survive and continue to produce videos for the community. I know of no community producers who rake in huge profits. We do not have Hollywood budgets or Hollywood profits, so file sharing, if it is allowed to continue, will eventually drive all of the quality producers out of this market, which will mean no new material for any of us.
I cannot begin to express my frustration when I saw 100 of my videos being file shared, many of them that I had yet to break even on. I can share my thoughts though. Here is exactly what went through my mind: "To hell with it! I'm not editing one more video. What I have in the vault, I will enjoy myself, and screw these souless vampires... and I'll just cancel the Supernova vs. Darkwing video that I was going to shoot in August. Why spend thousands of dollars of my good money for the benefit of these pirate slime? I don't need this! I make nothing on these videos, and I'll be damned if I'll go into debt to give these souless cyphers a thrill!!!!!"
...then, of course, I thought about my loyal customers... those who have supported my work over the years... those who have reported these sites to me so that I can pull the lifeline on these bloodsucking slime. Yes, that's why I'm doing this. Sure, I can keep all that footage of Petra and Suzi and Kerie and Tina and the rest to myself... but... it wouldn't be right for me to punish those who support the community producers because of the slime who are anathema to this community. So, I re-considered and once again resolved to keep producing and do everything in my power to wipe the scourge of the pirates from the face of our community.
Those were and are my thoughts on the subject.

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
I get the idea, Blue. What I don't get is why Penn bothered to say anything about it in public.
I wholeheartedly agree with the need for everyone to support their favorite producers, but no one who pirates is going to give a damn, and they sure as hell aren't going to come forward on a thread like this.

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
I agree, Nyghtfall. That is why the notifications are between producers only and not posted publicly. Not sure why Penn started this thread. There are obviously those in our community who both pirate videos and download pirated videos. Some do so without the realization of how harmful it is, but others don't give a damn. A couple of years ago, when I confronted a pirate on one of the pirate forums, he was very cocky (in line with the type of forum where he posted) and said simply, "I paid for the video, so I can post it for free if I want." That is the attitude that makes me want to pull down all of my videos, not do any more, and take some time to smell the roses!

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
I agree with you Blue, there is far too much pirating and pinching without permission out there. As much as I would like to see what othe rpeople have made/commissioned, I do understand and respect the rights of the original production team to the material they've made. Worst possible case is that it can cripple or force out of business reputable private movie producers

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
The producers alone will not solve piracy w/o help from members. Besides I stand by my conclusion in that the volume alone suggests that hacking and theft are indicated.
The most recent site listed by Bluestone has way too many videos from top ranking producers. Piracy may involve 2 or 3 videos. As stated by Bluestone, there are hundreds for each producer. There were 789 pages with 5 - 10 videos per page. Plus source producers were credited.
As a producer I am yelling "help"

I report pirated producer clips on YouTube (the only video/video file site I ever visit) whenever I find them.

Re: Bluestone reports pirate sites
ya youtube is great. great place to see old stuff like twilight zone episodes and maybe even movies. But anyways to be honest. I dont even share clips with anyone anymore. I either buy them or find screencaps and read the plot that goes with them or just find mainstream clips that have strangle or stabbing scenes in them. I dont even share my stories on sites much anymore. Just with a few handful of people privately. thats another topic. hehe.Indrid Cold wrote:I report pirated producer clips on YouTube (the only video/video file site I ever visit) whenever I find them.
