New Message Board

I'm launching my own fantasy death fetish message board soon. It will be completely separate from my clip site. I don't want to diminish what we have here, or any other boards you visit, but I do want to offer another option where people can get together and have a good time. I've registered a domain, installed the software, and am setting it up now.

With that in mind, I don't want too much on my plate in terms of hobbies, so I'm discontinuing my video review blog. I was starting to watch what little I did buy with a more critical eye than I was comfortable with, and that's not fair to anyone. It's not fun watching videos when you start nitpicking every little detail, looking for things to criticize about them.

I'll post the link to my new board when everything's ready.

Thank you.

Good luck with your new board, Nyghtfall. Like I posted elsewhere on FF today, "There are enough members out there for all of us, and in time people will decide where they are most comfortable posting... and it will be a personal decision". I'm sure your board will be a treat for the asphyxia fans amongst us! :D

Will it be mainly for the asphyx fetish Nightfall, or cover all forms of death fetish?

Hey Nyghtfall,

One question. What will be your board's focus?

As you know, DeadSkirts is isolationistic, but calls itself a consumers' board while calling FF a producers' board. That isn't really accurate, but there are real differences between the boards.

I like to view FF as a gateway board, linking all of the other community sites together. That is why I allow other boards, like yours to post notifications as with this thread, whereas Geno doesn't want his members to find out about the other boards.

Having said that, it doesn't make sense for there to be several cookie-cutter forums that all look alike and offer the same features. So, what will be different about Deadly Dreams? How will you be marketing it? What unique features will it be offering our community?

To provide another option where fantasy death fetishists can have fun and share ideas.

Feature-wise...

* First and foremost registration is automatic. I didn't want to have to manually approve new members, so I learned a most effective means to combat spam bots by requiring users to answer a simple question during the registration process. If I start seeing bot attacks though, I will switch to manual approval.

* It's completely open, so even guests can see every forum and sub-forum before deciding if they want to register. They just can't post.

* Even newly registered members have full control over their own avatars.

* Signatures can be up to 400 characters long.

* User groups are color coded, including newly registered and those with Producer status.

* Registered users can send and receive Personal Messages.

* Users can edit and delete their posts.

I'm debating whether or not to allow attachments, but those are some of the features my board offers.

Other than that, for now, my primary goal is to keep it as simple and on-topic as possible, create a nice, relaxing atmosphere where people can hang out and enjoy themselves. Over time, I may build out and add new features, but I don't want to overwhelm users with a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles.

As for looking like a cookie cutter, phpBB is pretty popular software with it being free and all, so a lot of the core functionality looks and feels the same as any other board running the same software. Thankfully, there are lots of different styles that admins can use to make their boards stand out aesthetically and not look like a generic setup. I'm using one called twilightBB that I tweaked a bit to make it easier on the eyes.

On that note, thank you for letting me advertise here. As I mentioned in my original post, all I want is to offer another option without diminishing what we have here.

Thanks for the rundown on your new board. Sounds good! A lot of the same bells and whistles as here, because it uses the same PHP software, but it's always good for community members to have another playground. It also will keep FF on its toes to make sure that we don't become too set in our ways and haughty as could happen to board owners who have no competition... and even happens to some who do. ;-)

Continue to keep us advised of any news on your new board every now and again.
