Hope this 2 cents helps...
Over the past twenty years the best business model I noticed for a producer to survive in this business is... (I know some what I will mention is obvious)

1) Have a genuine desire and enjoyment in making death fetish videos.
Which I feel is needed so the producer kinda knows what their customer will like.
In short if you like this stuff it helps (like... John M, Bluestone, Olaf, Gary to name a few)

2) Know how to use a video Camera / Direct / Edit
Believe me its not as easy as it looks!!!
There is a knack to know how to set up shots, lighting, angles exc, exc.

3) Be able to secure decent talent and know how to handle and direct them.
Meaning... don't be shy to let them know what buyers are looking for in a video and what they're willing do in acting out their death scene. A lot of times you will find actresses will be more than willing to please. Also don't be shy to experiment first before shooting the scene by
seeing what looks best in a rehearsal first.
Oh... yes actress should look halfway appealing if you want to sell anything.

4) Use the custom video / general sales business model!
Finally if you can do all of the above... what I feel is the best business model to go with is offer to make custom videos for customers.
Then offer the same (or maybe tweaked a bit video) to the general buyer.
This way you get a fair amount or full payment up-front for the cost of your video.
Then you can recover more cost when selling to general buyers.

Thanks for your input - never thought about the custom video approach, if we can get a stable pool of talent that is attractive just might think about advertising for custom work.

Forgot one more thing on (4).
When shooting a death scene... when possible (money & time permitting) shoot your scene two different ways... (or three for that matter) Like if your doing a shooting custom also tweak the scene by doing it as a breathless version.
Then you could get (if done right) two death themes for the time you pay to do one.
With out saying of course you would do a breathless scene first, then do the blood scene.
(that's if your going the full blood effect route)
However... Olaf now does some great gun-fun like stuff where he only adds the bullet hits in the computer (CGI) and does not have to stain any clothing.
Oh... when getting a model... always try to get her or them as long as you can afford during the day.
Example... Once I paid (14 years ago) $200 for four hours of work.
So before the shooting with her I thought out as much as possible on what I was going to have her act out before she shown up.
That way I could shoot more scenes with her for my money's worth.
So again to get the most out of your actress do all your homework first.
That way if you spend $300 to $1000 try to get a few videos in one afternoon.
Then you might actually make some money. (Work smart not hard.)

I shoot full days, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm with a one hour lunch break, and generally shoot 4 videos a day.

No, I don't make money either... but I have a hell of a good time!

Also, if the model's not gorgeous and is covered with tattoos and piercings... save your money and don't bother shooting with her at all. Most customers will simply give it a pass once they see what your competitors are offering.

I agree with most of what you say G. I guess most producers are lucky to break even especially with all the tuff competition out there. At least it can be a good thing (competition) for us the buyers since Bluestone, John M, the two CC's, of course Olaf and others keep the quality bar high.
Its a win win situation for us buyers! So it would behoove us and our community to at least buy a video once every month or two. Over the last 10 years I have not seen so much great stuff out there. I know this sounds like a paid announcement, (believe me its not) and I must say:
We're very lucky to have them (these producers) so let us members keep the ball rolling and buy a video every now or then from one of them.
I don't ever want to go back to the 1990's again.

I would like again to thank all of you that have taken the time to share your thoughts. I am continuing the search for a better looking girl for a second EDP filming session but no luck so far. Since my real passion is drowning, if I get to make a second clip I believe that I will focus on water rather than strangulation/choking. Anyway thanks again for all of the information and input.

I MAY BE A LITTLE LATE ON MY COMMENTS BUT I JUST FOUND THIS THREAD. NOT A BIG FAN OF WATERY CLIPS. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH NYGHTFALL. IF THAT GAL ABOVE AT THE DESK WAS STRANGLED FROM BEHIND, IT WOULD CATCH MY INTEREST EASILY. DRESSED THE WAY SHE IS AND PULLED UP OVER THE CHAIR WITH A NYLON, BLOUSE HAS TO BE OPEN, DOESNT HAVE TO BE TOPLESS, BRAS ARE SEXY ALSO. TATS ARE A COMPLETE TURN OFF BUT THE GAL WAS PRETY SEXY WITH THE TIE AROUND HER THROAT.
