“Doomsday” Reviewed

1 Overalls Score: B for female gore

2 Direction, Production and Script Values:

This script is sharp.....but what gives it the boost is the quality of the actors. Rona Mira is like Kate of the “Underworld” series, a charismatic, totally in control, sexually charged woman who has serious acting dimension. Both Bo Hoskins and Malcom Mc Dowell have nuanced roles with actual motive and texture, while the supporting cast is never less than professional B-Movie competent.

What this writer-director does is to never stay in one “Mad Max”, “James Bond”, “Knights and Armor” modern “Plague city” background so long that the seams and dropped stitches show. And Cleverly, these eras and stage settings actually make sense in the world of the story. It’s fast paced, (believe me, if you stop to think, this schtick will vanish).

The Cannibalism is chillingly explicit, killing, cooking and carving and eating. The gore is photo-real. Scores of women getting blasted away and such. “Everybody Fights, Everybody dies” is the fight scene extra’s creed here. Snicker.

3 Female Fight Content:

One great sword fight to the decapitation death. It it brutal efficient buisiness physically like Segal’s “Above the Law” style fighting, and not interrupted. We are there to watch 2 gorgeous women fight to the death. It is 2 minutes. I wanted more fists and intimate hand to hand hatefulness,... but at least we got a logical explicit fight to the death With raw meat injury footage!

4 Female Involved Mayhem :

The knight fight between out heroine and the chief knight is “Gladiator” tough.

Note- hacking and hewing and arrows abound. There is crucifixions in the background like flowers on cheap hotel wallpaper.

And I have never seen such ripped apart and squashed and splashed bodies as in the mobile scenes.

There is a joke about a woman's decapitated head and it's many uses that's easy to be fond of.

But warning. Female deaths go quick in the action so you will want to rent the DVD and slo-mo and pause the film to "get into" what is going on.

5 Notes:

The background wit and the film not following expected roads makes this a 'see in the theater' show.
