Well, lots of you are getting on board with bitcoin and taking advantage of the great deals at Genre Videos.

One comment from a fan was as follows:

"I just went over to add funds ready for the new release and still the link to automatically pay doesn't work.

The button below the address to pay and the amount of Bitcoins required is still saying that the web address cannot be reached.

I had to go to Coinbase and do it manually which still works fine."

Our software guy explained as follows:

"Unfortunately some people will get this error because their computers aren't set up to open bitcoin links. Mine doesn't open them either; I scan the qr code or cut and paste the address into my wallet like your customer did".

So, if you're getting this error, just cut and paste the address link into your bitcoin wallet and send the funds that way. It still works.

Well, by way of update, many fans are getting the hang of the bitcoin funding at Genre Videos, and sales are starting to get back into the normal range. I wish to thank all those intrepid voyagers out there who have braved the worlds of electronic currency and wrestled it into submission! I just went to the Coinbase site (I'm US) to sign up for bitcoin, and read through all their legal stuff, and there was only one paragraph that caught my attention. It concerns Prohibited Businesses. I'm not QUITE sure if Genre falls under this category, but:

Adult Content and Services: Pornography and other obscene materials ... etc.

Please tell me I don't have to worry about this clause . . .

I'm ready to sign otherwise.

No, there is no concern about censorship of our material. Genre Videos was actually approved as is by our BitCoin payment processor. All they are worried about is illegal activity, such as money laundering, illegal content, terrorist content, child porn, etc., none of which applies to GV. 'Obscenity' is referring to the criminal offense. Our material is within legal limits in most countries. If you're in Iran, you'd be purchasing our material at your peril, but that would also apply to purchasing any films where women show their faces or ankles. In addition, we are moving forward with our own payment processing system too, which we plan to offer to individual producers of our content.

Customers have to advantage, that with Bitcoins no recurring payment is possible, so you pay what you order and not more. I am sure most customers will activate Bitcoins very soon, especially where the risk in buying videos at a fraud website is reduced to a few $ payed in Bitcoins, compared to a credit card fraud or bank fraud which can result in multi thousand $ problems where you don't get anything back from your CC or Bank company.

Great point, vollstreckerat. Another advantage that Bitcoin has over credit card payments, both for producers and consumers.

Everyone interested in the future of this community should take a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the Bitcoin system. It will be well worth your while, and we are here to help you through the process. I know the terminology is a little unfamiliar now, but so was 'trending', 'tweeting' and 'face time' a few years ago. So, you keep your bitcoins in a 'wallet'. That's pretty simple. Your wallet has an address and can usually generate other addresses that are unique to your wallet. GV has similar addresses. The two addresses create a connection that is used to transfer bitcoins from your wallet to GV's wallet. Then, the GV software will credit your bitcoins to your GV account, converting them into the US Dollar equivalent. At that point, you have US Dollars that you can use at GV any time you wish to buy a video or membership. So, any risk that you are worried about in the minimal bitcoin fluctuations is reduced by you buying bitcoins and immediately converting them to GV US Dollars. See. Wasn't that easy?

Just to complete this Bitcoin stuff for website operators. We are actually in moving to a Bitcoin Payment System without any 3rd party involved:

Electrum is a great wallet, but also is able to handle website payments without 3rd party.

Genre Videos is in the process of developing a website payment platform that not only operates without a 3rd party having to be involved, but is also user friendly and fully automated. We will keep everyone informed as this payment platform nears completion. Until then, we are very pleased with our BitPay payment processor.

This is what is set up when you buy a Kindle. To get apps, you use bitcoins, not a credit card. They started you out with a certain amount to help you see how it worked. But then when you needed more, you just added more using your card. It's no different than charging up a gift card and then using it to make purchases. It's all the same money, just a way to get around the credit cards shutting you out from buying the clips you want.

Hi Mark,

I just sent you an email. I walked another member through the process just yesterday, and he got all funded. The first time takes a little getting used to the process, but it becomes easier every time you do it. Just reply to my email, and I'll walk you through the process. Since you've already got your Bitcoin wallet funded, the rest is easy. Start by clicking the funding button at Genre Videos. Remember, in Bitcoin you 'send funds' as opposed to 'make a payment'.

Cyber-burgled? That doesn't sound good, but not sure what you're referring to. Was there some UK Great Bitcoin Train Robbery that I didn't hear about?

I'm sure that the chances of being burgled for the few minutes that you buy bitcoin then convert it to GV US Dollars would be about .00000000000000000000009 per cent.

My SNB store still accepts cc payments.

For GV itself, send me an email and we'll see what we can work out for you; although, money orders are still an option for those who don't trust these new fangled cyber solutions.

International Money-order would do fine to top up my Genre Videos account, if you still take it, Blue. Although if you still take credit or debit cards, that would be easier and quicker for me.

Yeah I had a Bitcoin account but it got cyber-burgled and I lost £50 worth of coin (that's about $75). However what made it worse was that the cyber-burglars then were able to trace the link back to my bank a/c that I had originally filled the Bitcoin a/c up with, and then took out £500/$750 just like that (the maximum they were allowed to do!). They went back the 2nd day but fortunately somebody was awake at the bank and put a temporary stop on my bank a/c.
Sadly, because Bitcoin isn't covered by the Financial Services Regulation Act in in this country, I have no compensation or insurance so the money is lost for good :( That is why I will never use Bitcoin ever again (at least Paypal has a few safeguards!)

I tried figuring out how to fund bitcoin but kind of gave up after it wanted my phone number and I'm pretty sure my card number....NicheClips still takes credit cards and is pretty easy to use and as I've used them for quite some time without any problems
